I’m saving the day this March!

Hero Name: Tegan!!

Purple Power: Spreading purple awareness and raising purple funds

Hero Mission: I’m saving the day this March for the 270,000 people in Australia facing  challenges of epilepsy by participating in Make March Purple.

I have lived with epilepsy for 5 years now. In that time I have struggled with ongoing seizures and spent years trying to find out how to handle my condition.Without access to doctors/neurologists and the treatment needed to manage my epilepsy, I wouldn’t have the independence and quality of life I have today. In saying this, there is more research to be done and awareness for various types of epilepsy.

As a Purple Hero this March we all need our sidekicks, so please show your support by donating to my page. Even if it’s only small like $5 or $10 anything make’s a difference!

All funds raised will provide information, education and training and vital support services to people living with epilepsy.

Thank you so much for your support!

$863 raised of $1,000 already!!💜

Friday 7th Mar
So far I’ve reached $863 of my $1,000 goal raised to go towards the Victoria and New South Wales Epilepsy Foundation to further medical research, recourses and treatments to support those and their family’s affected by epilepsy. And it wouldn’t have been so without you!! Also to achieve this much raised so early on in March is so awesome!! #makemarchpurple I can’t thank everyone who has donated enough for your generosity and support, it really means a lot💜

Epilepsy First Aid - important things to know💜

Wednesday 5th Mar
#1 - Stay Calm and assess the situation

#2 - Protect them from injury. In some cases people who experience tonic-clonic seizures can go unconscious within a matter of seconds and cannot get into a safe position right away.

#3 - Roll them onto their side and never put anything into their mouth.

#4 - Time the seizure. General rule is if it continues for over 1 minute - call an ambulance.

#5 - Stay with the person until they are fully awake. Speaking from experience a person can usually present very disorientated, confused & sometimes in a panic. It is best to keep them calm and seated, talk slowly, deep breaths and even gently squeezing their hands can help them come to properly.

#6 - This one probably sounds like a weird one to some people. I’d probably not do this for a stranger but if someone you know or a loved one has epilepsy ask if they’d be okay if the situation were to happen:
Film the seizure.
The idea of this is probably uncomfortable and understandably so, but medical evidence can be extremely helpful to provide to their doctors/neurologists in assisting with a diagnosis and to gauge a better understand of their condition.
