Colt’s Story

Tuesday 18th Mar

Thank you for jumping on and checking out Colt’s fundraising page.

For those of you who don’t know Colt’s story, it started back in 2023 when he was just 10 months old. It was a normal winter August evening, a Friday to be exact. Whilst having his nightly shower with Dad and his two brothers, Colt had his first seizure. Off to the local hospital via ambulance for observation and a check up.  We were told everything was fine and the likelihood of him having another seizure was quite slim. Less than a minute after being told this, Colt had another seizure. We were admitted for testing and further observation.  If was fine Saturday and Saturday night we would be discharged Sunday morning. His obs were looking good, no further seizures at this point and tests came back that he had a couple of viruses but the doctors were happy for us to be discharged in the morning if all was fine overnight. This is when our world was turned upside down. At around 7.30pm Saturday Colt was sitting on my happily sitting on my lap watching the nurse do his obs, prior to the nurse handover. She walked out of the room and I noticed he hadn’t moved in my arms. He was a wiggly little boy, so for him to be sitting that still I knew something was wrong. I yelled out to the nurse, hit the emergency button and in ran a number of nurses and doctors. For just over 2 minutes they performed CPR, Colt has stopped breathing. I’ve never felt so helpless. No parent should have to experience seeing your child like that. Once stable we were transferred via PIPER ambulance to Monash Children’s Hospital. Colt spent a week in hospital. Unfortunately more seizures occurred but they seemed to not be as intense. After having an MRI, lumbar puncture, scans and more tests, he was cleared to go home as results were looking positive.

It was then over the next 5 months that Colt was in and out of hospital, having complex blocks of seizures that each time seemed to intensify.

In February 2024 Colt was diagnosed with Underlying Seizure Disorder. Thankfully Colt is in a much better position now than he was 12 months ago thanks to the daily medication he has to take.

We want to thank you for rising the time to read Colt’s story. We are so grateful for the support we have received from family, friends and those around us. Our little fighters are truly special people. Let’s help raise awareness and make March Purple 💜
